Fields of Athen-ry
Even though The House is nearing 100 years, it’s surprisingly has had very few owners. Built by James Ryan during the period between 1909 and 1911, the House was inherited by his son Herbert. Oral tradition maintains that The House’s Grand staircase and mantles were supplied by the same craftsmen and manufacturer who built and installed the Grand staircase of the Titanic.
Considering the timeline of construction for both The Titanic (1909-1911) and The House (1909-1911), this claim seems plausible. It can be further supported by the fact that the type of oak, quarter cut English-white, used is indigenous to Europe requiring its importation, and that Ryan dealt directly with European suppliers rather than local middlemen. Thus, increasing the likelihood of this business transaction.
